110 Ugandan Truck Drivers Are Trained by CNOOC In Employable Skills for The Oil Industry

As part of the program, 110 drivers received professional training, certification, and licensing to operate rigid trucks (class CM license) or heavy goods trucks and trailers (class CH license) in compliance with East African community curricula.

The Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) drivers Training and Licensing Program has been concluded by CNOOC Uganda Limited.

As part of the program, 110 drivers received professional training, certification, and licensing to operate rigid trucks (class CM license) or heavy goods trucks and trailers (class CH license) in compliance with East African community curricula.

On behalf of CNOOC, the Uganda Driving Standards Agency (UDSA) and Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom (BKK) collaborated to conduct the training in order to close skill gaps in logistics and transportation, particularly in Uganda’s oil and gas industry.

Along with the contractor UDSA, the trainee selection process was carried out in collaboration with Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom, which furnished the training grounds and supported the identification and selection of trainees from eight districts: Kikuube, Hoima, Masindi, Buliisa, Kiryandongo, Kakumiro, Kibaale, and Kagadi.

Another goal of the collaboration with the Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom was community content.

This training’s main goal was to equip Ugandan HGV drivers with the necessary skills and help them get the class CH license for trucks and trailers or the class CM license for rigid trucks, which is needed to work in transportation and logistics for jobs in the oil and gas industry and other sectors.

Graduate trainee Asraf Bagada expressed gratitude to CNOOC Uganda Limited for the assistance provided, which allowed them to gain practical experience in important areas such as defensive driving, safe road usage, flexible and smooth acceleration, and driver discipline.

“We believe we are prepared to take advantage of the HG employment that come with oil and gas. We have had an engaging platform to exchange, investigate, and debate heavy-duty vehicle and traffic safety ideas and concerns over the course of the three-month program.”
