Airtel Uganda has increased its support as Uganda gets ready to host the G-77+China and Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summits by giving 500 phone Sim-Cards filled with airtime valued at sh50,000 to delegates attending the two major events. Additionally, the telecom company has been chosen to serve as the summits’ official backup internet service provider.
To provide reliable connectivity during the summits, Airtel Uganda has deployed 5G technology inside the conference rooms and at the Speke Resort Convention Centre. With a total expenditure of sh90 million, the company has increased its efforts to improve connection in 49 additional locations within Kampala Capital City.
Dr. Aminah Zawedde, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, received the SIM cards and connectivity devices from Manoj Murali, the Managing Director of Airtel Uganda. Airtel’s dedication to digital inclusivity and advancement was emphasized by Murali, who took satisfaction in their position as the official substitute Internet service provider.
In order to facilitate efficient communication for accredited journalists covering the summits, Airtel Uganda has promised to give airtime worth sh50,000. In order to prevent network disruptions for delegates in transit, the business has made substantial preparations, including installing boosters at strategic points like the Nambiriggwa Bridge and along the Kampala-Entebbe Expressway.
“This summit is not just an assembly; it is a symbol of solidarity, cooperation, and mutual respect among 120 nations,” said Murali, underscoring the summits’ symbolic significance. It is a privilege for Airtel Uganda to facilitate these important discussions by offering fiber cable and 5G internet access throughout the summit.
In addition to thanking Airtel for their kind response, Dr. Zawedde emphasized that effective digital transformation requires cooperation between the government and many stakeholders.
