The US-based IREX Artificial Intelligence surveillance platform, which uses Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) Cameras, briefed representatives of Security organs on 19th June 2023. These organs include the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Internal Security Organization (ISO), Uganda Police Force (UPF), Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs, State House, and the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, among others.
Speaking to journalists at the Kampala Hotel Africana, Daniel Eborall, the director of IREX’s global business development, said that IREX enables scattered teams to collaborate across agencies using messenger.
“IREX platform, which is capable of connecting over 100 CCTV Cameras, is capable of identifying mass shootings, wanted fugitives, missing children, unattended items, and crowd related threats in the city within 0.4 seconds,” he claimed.
Journalists questioned whether IREX could be purchased by private individuals or businesses. Mr. Eborall responded that they are currently dealing with governments and that any private firm interested in subscribing to the IREX Platform should contact state security.
According to Tim Elabd, Managing Director of Vanguard Global and an IREX Partner, the world we live in today faces international concerns like terrorism, which call for high technology solutions.
“Achieving answers to the current security risks requires real-time technologies. These include artificial intelligence (AI) and surveillance, he said.
According to him, criminals are taking advantage of Africa’s rapid industrialisation to stymie the continent’s steady industrialization progress. citing South Korea as an illustration, which has advanced consistently as a result of placing a high priority on industrialization and technology. Uganda and other African nations should follow South Korea’s example, according to Mr. Elabd.
“The African Continent is a strategic market for many companies, but the numerous security barriers are a challenge that needs urgent solutions,” he continued.
The conference coordinator, Jim Tibuhaburwa, emphasized the importance of using IREX technology by the various government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) concerned with security issues in order to ensure security.
He stated that the goal of the meeting was to find creative answers to the problems affecting Uganda’s security.
