To combat the escalating number of car accidents that are taking lives across the nation, Cabinet has proposed road safety measures.

Baryomunsi further noted that car flaws, such as worn-out or defective tires, bad brakes, engine failures, system failures, and faulty or subpar parts, among others, are to blame for vehicle malfunctions and road crashes.
Cabinet further noted that boda boda accidents have consistently resulted in more fatalities than auto accidents.
He claimed that the majority of boda boda riders were “reckless and indisciplined,” which led to multiple road fatalities.
Crash figures
According to the Police Annual Crime Report 2022, there were 20,394 road crashes reported in the nation in 2022 as opposed to 17,443 the year before. In every 100 incidents, there were 22 fatalities, and reckless driving was to blame for 61% of all accidents.
According to the mini-weekly Traffic and Road Safety report between July- 9-15, 100 persons died in car accidents in the previous week.
This takes the total number of fatalities in the past two weeks to 177.
On Monday, July 17, 2023, at the joint security briefing conducted at Police headquarters in Kampala, a report for the previous week was presented. Of the 432 crashes reported, 97 were fatal, 202 were serious, and 133 were minor.
Speaking on behalf of the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety, Michael Kananura revealed that out of the 424 victims, 100 died and 324 were injured.
40 pedestrians and 42 motorcycle riders (13 passengers and 29 riders) died in the crash.
On July 16, 2023, at around 8:30 p.m., a tragic collision involving two vehicles—a trailer and a Toyota Hiace—took place near Muzizi Forest on the Kagadi-Kyenjojo Road in the Kagadi area. More than 15 people were killed as a result of the collision.
According to early research, the Trailer, which was traveling from Sudan to Congo, failed to round a turn at Muzizi Forest, which resulted to a collision with the Toyota Hiace.
