At State House Entebbe, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni met with a team from the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry led by the chamber’s Board of Directors Chairman, Abdallah Sultan Al Owais.
Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka, Minister of State for Works and Transport Fred Byamukama, and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Henry Okello Oryem were among those in attendance.
During the meeting on Wednesday, Abdallah Sultan and his team updated the President on the status of the Kidepo Valley National Park Airport building.
On Wednesday evening, the State House stated that President Museveni had approved the airport’s development, but cautioned investors about the safety of animals in the park.
He also informed the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry that they will be tax exempt as the project progresses.
President Museveni also vowed to mobilize the Uganda Hotel Owners Association to construct hotels in the vicinity to accommodate passengers utilizing the airport.
Abdallah Sultan informed the President that the airport, when completed, will have a 3,500-metre runway to accommodate aircraft such as the Boeing B777.
The park is now served by Kidepo Airfield (Length: 1500 meters, Width: 30 meters) in Lomej.
Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry was founded in 1970 by an Amiri decree issued by His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah in order to effectively and vitally participate in the organization of economic life and the prosperity of its trade, industry, agricultural, digital, and professions sectors on all levels and in collaboration with the concerned establishments and bodies and local departments.
Sharjah is the third-most populated city in the UAE, behind Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The Emirate is part of the Dubai-Sharjah-Ajman agglomeration.
