On January 30, 2024, the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) announced the start of a feasibility study to improve sanitation and water delivery in three new cities: Lira, Hoima, and Fort Portal. The NWSC Managing Director, Eng. Dr. Silver Mugisha, officially opened the project, which aims to improve the water supply in nearby towns.
In order to pay for consulting services for the feasibility assessment of Water and Sanitation Infrastructure development in the designated cities, Dr. Mugisha stated that the utility has obtained grant finance from the Agence Française de Développement (AFD). The project is in line with the president’s promise to supply water to every resident of the recently formed communities.
Warner Consultants Ltd. is a subcontractor to the NWSC, which has a contract with the Seureca and Artelia Consortium for 1,099,823.50 Euros, or around UGX 4.54 billion. They are tasked with carrying out thorough feasibility assessments for the infrastructure related to water and sewage in the defined locations.
In order to address the expanding needs of the communities, Dr. Mugisha emphasized the significance of this endeavor by highlighting the rising demand for water services in the new cities.
