South Korea Expanding Development Aid: South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol announced that South Korea will expand development aid to Africa and pursue deeper cooperation with Africa on critical minerals and technology at the inaugural Korea-Africa Summit.
Yoon said that 33 heads of state attended the meeting.
Yoon stated that the leaders decided to increase trade and investment by creating institutional frameworks to support it, and he put up the idea of “shared growth” as a cornerstone of collaboration with the continent.
Reaching out with offers to assist with digital transformation and industrial infrastructure, South Korea is attempting to get a foothold in a massive and rapidly expanding market that is home to 1.4 billion people, most of whom are under 25.
Uganda to Open Diplomatic Mission in South Korea: Hon. Okello Oryem, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, revealed that Uganda plans to open a resident Diplomatic Mission in the Republic of Korea to ensure Uganda achieves maximum benefits from the relations between the two nations.
- Korea-Africa Summit: The Korea-Africa Summit, which was held in Seoul, South Korea, was attended by over 45 African countries, who spent two days discussing ways of developing cooperation between Korea and African states, particularly in the economic, energy and digital fields.
South Korea and African Nations Announce High-Level Talks: Following the meeting, South Korea and the African nations announced that they will start high-level talks aimed at improving cooperation over minerals.
- Uganda Delegation: Uganda’s delegation, led by Vice President Jessica Alupo, includes Minister of Finance, Hon. Matia Kasaija, ICT, Hon. Chris Baryomunsi, Science, Technology and innovation, Hon. Monica Jane Musenero Masanza, State for Works, Hon. Musa Francis Ecweru and Hon. Davinia Esther Anyakun, Minister of State for Gender, Labor and Social Development in charge of employment and Industrial Relations and Vice Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs, Hon. Fred Opolot.
