At the National Leadership Institute (NALI), Kyankwanzi, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni met and spoke with a delegation from Huawei Technologies Uganda today.

The Huawei team revealed plans to create a Digital Village Prototype at the conference. It will consist of a solar power station using Huawei’s Digital Power Micro-Grid Solution, a network tower station, and a number of smart classroom accessories.

The President was advised by Mr. Hover Gao, President of Huawei Sub-Saharan Africa, that the project’s goal is to show how digital infrastructure can revolutionize rural areas.
He went on to say that Huawei’s commitment to assisting these regions is demonstrated by the initiative’s alignment with Uganda’s national strategy for rural development.

President Museveni responded by expressing his unwavering support for the project.

“Please proceed with the project, and I will come in person to commission the project,” he said.

Huawei Technologies Uganda’s Public Relations Manager, Ms. Sooma Mukyala Fouziya, emphasized how the project might support the Parish Development Model (PDM) by leveraging ICT to foster digital transformation and sustainable growth.

Ms. Fouziya also gave an overview of Huawei’s “One Network, One Cloud” initiative, which refers to the idea that a nation should work to develop computing infrastructures like a “national cloud” on top of a network connection foundation in order to spur further competition and create a smarter, more connected Uganda. To facilitate further discussion, the President has assigned the Huawei team the task of creating a comprehensive plan for the “national Cloud.”

As a token of their dedication to the Digital Village Prototype project, the Huawei team gave the President a plaque at the conclusion of the meeting.
