Pakwach district officials have stated that industrialization will increase as a result of the West Nile region’s connection to the national electrical grid through the Karuma Hydropower project.
They claim that industrialization will contribute to a decrease in the region’s youth unemployment rate.
They made their comments on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, in response to a post made by Energy Minister Ruth Nankabirwa on X, formerly Twitter, which stated: “The 120-meter last GERP tower was completed in a record 15 days.”
We are also committed to connecting the West Nile Region to the National Grid, with the 80MVA Arua Substation—a crucial component of the 132kV Kole-Gulu-Nebbi-Arua Transmission Line (289km) Grid Extension Project (GERP) to the West Nile—being fully completed and prepared for commissioning.
According to Twaib Achile, the district commissioner for Pakwach deputy resident, West Nile has been waiting 36 years for a link to the national power grid.
Even if things are moving slowly, he continued, the region is finally connecting, which should help the economy by giving young people more chances.
