The East African Community (EAC) said in a statement on Monday, July 15, that Uganda will host the 11th East Africa Internet Governance Forum (EAIGF) to address important problems that boost internet development and governance in the region.
EAC headquarters in Arusha announce that the forum under the theme “Building our Multistakeholder Digital Future for East Africa” would be held in Kampala on September 11–12 by the regional block in collaboration with the Internet Society chapter in Uganda.
Information and communication technology industry participants in the region, along with other stakeholders, are urged to use the forum to help shape the digital integration agenda for the region by EAC Deputy Secretary General Andrea Aguer Ariik Malueth, who oversees the infrastructure, productive, social, and political sectors.
“In the rapidly evolving digital landscape, effective internet governance is crucial for fostering innovation, ensuring security, and promoting inclusivity,” stated Malueth.
According to the statement, the East African Internet Governance Forum (EAIGF) has been a crucial forum for discussion on Internet governance matters since its establishment in 2008.
The statement claims that in order to determine the future of the Internet in the area, the event will promote a multi-stakeholder approach by bringing together representatives from the public and commercial sectors, academia, civil society, and government.
As a component of the worldwide UN Internet Governance Forum, the EAIGF offers a forum for ongoing discussion of public policy matters with the aim of guaranteeing the Internet’s development, stability, security, and sustainability.
