On Tuesday, January 7, leaders of the Bunyoro-Kitara kingdom met with representatives of the Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC) to talk about plans for oil and gas development in the Kasurubani oil block, which is situated in the districts of Hoima and Buliisa.
The gathering, which took place in the Kingdom’s Hoima City headquarters, was a component of UNOC’s endeavors to carry out social and environmental impact assessments in order to direct the planned exploration activities.
After receiving an exploration license, the company is getting ready to conduct a 2D seismic survey in the Kasurubani block, according to Charles Mwesige, an environmental specialist at UNOC.
Mwesige went on to say that their trip to the kingdom was a crucial step in involving stakeholders before the exploration stage.
The social affairs officer who represented the kingdom, Robert Rukahemura, promised that the Kingdom will fully support this exercise.
However, he advised UNOC to use prudence when conducting the exploratory activity in order to respect the cultural sites and the residents of the Kasurubani block.
About 1,285 square kilometers make up the Kasurubani block, which extends from Kibiro in the Hoima district to Butaiba, Bugungu Wildlife Reserve, and up to Biiso in the Buliisa district.
