Service leaders from the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) have reviewed the progress of construction work at Entebbe International Airport, particularly the renovation of the passenger terminal building.

On Thursday (November 16), a team led by Joint Chief of Staff Major General Leopold Kyanda reviewed the operations of the UPDF Engineers Brigade.

“The Engineers Brigade was able to meet the deadline and deliver quality work.” “When we use our own, supervision becomes very easy, and we produce good work,” said Maj Gen Kyanda, according to a UPDF announcement.

He said that the army was contracted in accordance with the Presidential direction that the UPDF Engineers Brigade take on some government building projects if they had the competence.

He went on to say that the Brigade has shown to be the finest among private contractors.

He added that the Engineers Brigade does not seek profits, but rather to provide low-cost services to residents.

According to Brig Gen Besigye Bekunda, Commander Engineers Brigade, the building activities at the new passenger terminal comprise a lot of specialized engineering work such as innovative designs and construction that will make it the greatest in Africa and the globe.

He went on to say that the Entebbe International Airport improvements are among the 290 projects performed by the UPDF Engineers Brigade.

Other projects he mentioned include the ongoing development at Mandela National Stadium in Namboole, the Kajjansi National Medical Stores Oxygen Plant Base, and the Regional Immigration Office in Gulu City.

According to the UPDF official website, construction of Entebbe International Airport began on May 25, 2022, and is anticipated to be completed by January 2, 2024, with a current physical progress of 95%.

The Joint Chief of Staff was joined by Maj Gen Jack Bakasumba, Chief of Staff Land Force, and UPDF Service Chiefs, among others.
