EPSauto, the Express Penalty Scheme Automated, records the precise location of the incident. Cameras and sensors placed at key points like junctions and highways detect traffic offenses such as speeding, red-light violations, and improper lane usage. When a rule is broken, the system captures an image or records a video of the violating vehicle, clearly showing the number plate, from which it extracts the details. The system reviews the data to confirm the offense, determining details like vehicle speed or whether a light was run. This vital information is then processed, and once confirmed, a fine is issued to the owner of the vehicle based on the registered details of the number plate, with proof like photos or footage attached. Vehicle owners can either pay the fine or appeal the ticket if they believe there’s a mistake.

The system captures an image of the violating vehicle, specifically the number plate, from which it extracts the details. This vital information is then processed, and a fine is issued to the owner of the vehicle based on the registered details of the number plate.
When a traffic offense is committed, data is captured by EPS Auto and verified by a traffic police officer before a fine ticket is issued. The fines should be paid within 28 days using the PRN issued with the ticket through banks, bank agents, Payway, or mobile money. A surcharge of 50% is applied if the fine is not paid within 28 days.
The system mostly works in automatic mode; however, there is a short list of functions performed by responsible officers. These roles are mainly necessary in cases where the system cannot fully recognize the number plate (which happens in less than 0.1% of cases) or in situations where there is an absence of information on the vehicle and owner.
