Free Wi-Fi hotspots have been built at border checkpoints, including Lwakhkha, Mpondwe, Mutukula, Busia, Vura, Katuna, and Elegu, according to the minister.

During his reading of the national budget on Thursday at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in Kampala, Kasaija made the discovery. At the ceremony, he added that the budget for the fiscal year 2023–2024 includes shillings 192 billion for digital transformation.

“To monitor service provision across the national backbone infrastructure, the network for the greater Kampala metropolitan area will be improved. By connecting all vital services, including as schools, hospitals, tourist attractions, and the Police to the backbone, we will also digitally alter the delivery of public services, Kasaija added.

Kasaija disputed the fact that 4,717 kilometers of optical fiber had been deployed throughout the nation.

Kasaija informed a group of ministers, lawmakers, foreign envoys, and media, “Geographic coverage of broadband services (3G) stands at 66% and 25 broadband sites that have been upgraded to 3G providing services to over 700,000 Ugandans.”

Speaker Anita Among presided over the House as the Budget speech was read.
