The Ministry of Finance has been instructed by President Museveni to quickly set aside cash for the rehabilitation of the Kabale-Kisoro road’s damaged stretch in Hamurwa Town Council, Rubanda District.
This instruction was given by Henry Musasizi Ariganyira, State Minister of Finance for General Duties, during his statement at the funeral service for Mzee Twinamasiko Thomas Bukuru, who tragically passed away on September 24, 2023, in a car accident.
On the Kabale-Kisoro route, Mzee Thomas, 72, was struck by a rolling stone propelled by a moving trailer. The catastrophe took place in May 2023 when torrential rainstorms wrecked havoc on the Kigezi district, killing many people and causing significant property damage.
The Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) had placed the stone at the scene as a roadside barrier before it claimed Mzee Bukuru’s life.
The government regrets the delay in fixing the damaged section of the Kabale-Kisoro road at Hamurwa, Minister Musasizi, who is also the Member of Parliament for Rubanda East, said. He pledged that the problem will be immediately resolved.
Musasizi quickly informed the President about Mzee Bukuru’s unfortunate passing, and the President sent his sincere sympathies to the family and ordered the hunt for money to fix the road. The Minister estimates that 3.5 billion Ugandan Shillings are needed for the road repair project.
Musasizi also gave the deceased’s family 5 million Ugandan Shillings as part of President Museveni’s message. He urged Mzee Bukuru’s offspring to continue their father’s work ethic and dedication to the NRM Government.
The late Bukuru’s children, now doubly orphaned, lamented that their father had suffered a fate like to that of their mother, who had reportedly been slain a few years earlier. Immaculate Kyarisiima, the oldest sister, pleaded with her siblings to stick together in the wake of these tragedies.
Kakore Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Maniragaba Deusdedit stressed the value of living a moral life and being ready for one’s unavoidable death throughout his sermon. He noted that it was preferable for Mzee Bukuru to die on his way home from church as opposed to in less moral circumstances.
At the age of 72, Mzee Bukuru Thomas, who was born in 1951, passed away, leaving behind 54 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren in addition to six sons and four daughters. In his native Bwondo Village, Shabeya Parish, Hamurwa Subcounty, Rubanda District, he was laid to rest.
