A technological effort spearheaded by Huawei Technologies Uganda and the Ugandan government aims to empower the people in the Kalungu district and its environs. The initiative to teach locals about the advent of digital technology is being led by Kalungu officials. Over 10,000 people in Uganda are to receive basic digital training over the course of three years from the Huawei DigiTruck project. Small company owners, the informal sector (Jua-kali), youth, and students are among the categories that are specifically targeted. With its laptop computers and network coverage, the DigiTruck can reach underserved areas and give digital skills to those who most need them.

ICT expertise can be used by the mechanics to locate automotive issues. Boda Boda finds it helpful to locate customers as well. According to Hon. Ssempijja, “People will be able to use digital maps to locate places with specific distance.”

The executive director of Huawei Technologies Uganda, Mr. Ken Luo, declared that the training course will concentrate on modifying technology to suit regional requirements. “With 40 people scheduled for daily training, the computers will run on solar energy, guaranteeing sustainability and accessibility for all residents.”

District chairman Mr. Ahmed Nyombi Mukiibi, RDC Dr. Paddy Kayondo, and Youth Council member Mr. Frank Kajumbi are among the officials who have endorsed this effort and highlighted its significance to their community.

Hon. Ssempijja urged locals to seize the chance and gave them confidence that Kalungu would prosper in the technological age if they were determined.
