The final of the six units of the Karuma hydropower project has been successfully connected to the national grid, according to a statement released by the Uganda Electricity Generation Company Limited (UEGCL).

The 600 megawatt plant in Kiryandongo district is being developed and operated by the UEGCL, which verified the milestone with a tweet on its official account.

At 9:18 am, Unit 5 was synchronized to the national grid, indicating that all operational tests for readiness were finished.

The six units that make up the hydropower facility have an installed generation capacity of 100MW each. March of the previous year saw the synchronization of the first unit.

The last unit’s connection has prepared the ground for this year’s flagship generating facility commissioning.
