As part of its corporate social responsibility, Chongqing International Construction Corporation (CICO), the project’s principal contractor for the 21 km Kira-Kasangati-Matugga Road, has built two more office rooms for the Matugga Police Station. The facilities marked a major contribution to local law enforcement when they were formally launched during a lively celebration that was attended by the Matugga community.
The manager of the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) in charge of the road project, Eng. Jude Kyobe, praised the goodwill that exists between the community, the contractor, and the local police. The seamless development of the road construction has been made possible by this cooperative effort, which also ensures the safety of the contractors’ equipment.
“The good relationship between the police and the community ensures security for the contractors and their road equipment,” Kyobe said.
The head of the Matugga Police Station, Kassim Kakembo, used the occasion to make a plea to the public for assistance in preventing crime. He urged locals to seize the chance to work on-the-side jobs provided by the road project instead of participating in illegal activities like stealing gasoline from the road machinery.
The parish priest of Lwadda in the Namirembe Diocese, Reverend Michael Waswa, led prayers of gratitude during the ceremony and urged police officers to make time for spiritual issues despite their busy schedules. Additionally, he thanked CICO Construction for its assistance to the police and the community.
