NITA-U Executive Director Dr. Hatwib Mugasa emphasized that the Consumer Protection Portal is a component of a larger set of digital solutions designed to further Uganda’s digital agenda. The platform, which was created in partnership with Enabel Uganda and the Private Sector Foundation of Uganda, offers a methodical way for IT customers and service providers to settle disagreements and empowers Ugandans to hold providers responsible.

How IT Customers Are Protected by the Portal
The portal’s introduction on November 13, 2024, marks a major advancement in Uganda’s defense of IT users’ rights.

It offers a user-friendly platform for customers to file complaints about things like phony IT products, poor quality services, or dubious online purchases. It also addresses disagreements pertaining to contracts involving the provision or use of IT products and services.

When a complaint is received, NITA-U looks into the matter and makes sure that corrective action is done to protect customers from unfair business practices.

The portal’s connection with NITA-U’s IT arbitration services is one of its most notable aspects. This enables quick and unbiased resolutions by enabling disputing parties to start arbitration immediately through the portal. The rulings, which are supported by the NITA-U Act of 2009’s authority, uphold moral behavior in the IT industry and foster customer confidence.

In addition to enhancing accountability and transparency, the Consumer Protection Portal supports NITA-U’s mission to protect IT users. An important turning point in Uganda’s transition to a more secure and equitable digital economy has been reached with this launch.
