As the country prepares for the Non-Allied Movement (NAM) and Group of 77+China summits, the government has announced that it has updated internet connectivity at Entebbe Airport for a better user experience.
Dr. Amina Zawedde, permanent secretary for the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, said on Tuesday that the airport has been upgraded to WiFi 6.
WiFi 6 is a fast wireless LAN (Local Area Network) protocol that allows networked devices to function efficiently in congested environments.
“We are now certain and sure of efficient connectivity at the airport,” she stated. She went on to say,
“We are not only connecting the airport but also areas of the summit, including Munyonyo, and upgrading it to WiFi 6 as well.”
She also stated that specific spaces around the Uganda Media Centre will be improved, and that a strong link will be established to facilitate proceedings, including live broadcast.
“So, we expect that we shall not have breaks in transmission during the live coverages,” she went on to say.
She also stated that their specialists would guarantee that the systems’ cyber security is improved to the highest firewall level.
She was addressing at the Kampala Serena Hotel on Tuesday at a Media Breakfast Meeting to inform the country on Uganda’s preparations for the approaching Non-Aligned Movement and G77 Conference.
“We have also done an awareness training to organisers and are continuing to sensitize all entities involved in the organization, including the media,” she went on to say.
She stated that they sponsored the creation of two websites for the NAM and G77 summits and enhanced them with greater web firewall application security to assure the safety of all material.
The NAM summit will be held from 15 to 20 January at Speke Resort Hotel in Munyonyo, while the G77 summit (Third South Summit) will be held from 21 to 23 January under the themes “Depending Cooperation for Shared Global Affluence” and “Leaving No One Behind.”
