Gen. Katumba Wamala, the minister of works and transportation, has received a gift of life jackets and other supplies from the Lake Victoria Basin Commission as a token of sympathy for the most recent Lake Victoria boat disaster.

More than 20 persons lost their lives in the incident after the allegedly overcrowded ferry capsized.

In order to get to Kasenyi landing site in Wakiso district, the boat was traveling from Lwanabatya landing site in Kalangala district.

Dr. Masinde Bwire, the executive secretary of the commission, offered the grieving families of the recent boat disaster a contribution of 40 SOLAS-approved life jackets as well as food.

At the Ministry of Works and Transport’s headquarters in Kampala, the handover took place on Friday.

When the disaster occurred about 5:00 am on August 2, police said that the ship was transporting fish, charcoal, and fresh groceries. Overloading and the adverse weather were identified as the accident’s causes.
