Aiming to equip 200 Ugandan youth with skills and an international competency-based accreditation to work on the Tilenga project during the production phase, TotalEnergies EP Uganda has started the 2.5-year Tilenga Academy training program.
The Uganda Petroleum Institute Kigumba (UPIK) will begin training its inaugural cohort of one hundred (100) trainees in April 2024. Subsequent training programs at global oil and gas training facilities and practical training throughout the Tilenga Project’s building phase will come next. October 2024 is when the second cohort is scheduled to begin training.
In order to provide young people with the skills and international certifications necessary to work on the Tilenga project during the production phase, TotalEnergies EP Uganda has announced 200 Ugandan youngsters who were chosen from the Tilenga MOOC to enroll in the Tilenga Academy training program.
The Uganda Petroleum Institute Kigumba (UPIK) will begin training its inaugural cohort of one hundred (100) trainees in April 2024. Subsequent training programs at global oil and gas training facilities and practical training throughout the Tilenga Project’s building phase will come next. October 2024 is when the second cohort is scheduled to begin training.
The chosen trainees will study a variety of courses, some of which include oil and gas, production, maintenance, and environmental, health, and safety theory.
Production will be the specialty of 31% of the students, followed by mechanical maintenance (27%), instrumentation maintenance (26%), and electrical maintenance (16%).
“We are proud to contribute significantly towards the development of local capacity in the oil and gas industry at such a crucial time when the country is scaling up oil and gas activities,” stated Mr. Philippe GROUEIX, General Manager, TotalEnergies EP Uganda, during the opening of the program.
The Tilenga Academy seeks to provide young Ugandans with the highest caliber of international training in oil and gas.
“By strengthening the nation’s human resource capacity needed in the oil and gas industry, the Tilenga Academy training conducted in collaboration with UPIK demonstrates our commitment to maximizing national content, creating shared value in Uganda for Ugandans, and enabling a net positive outcome on the project,” he continued.
An important step toward being prepared for first oil is the start of this training.
