On Wednesday, January 24, 2024, the recommendation was delivered to the Parliament budget committee, which is led by Patrick Isiagi (Kachumbala County). The committee observed that only Sh32.5 billion was allotted in the 2024–2025 budget, compared to KMC’s initial proposal of Sh166.64 billion for the operationalization of the Jinja electric car facility.

The government allotted 100 acres of land at the Jinja Industrial and Business Park and authorized the Kiira Vehicle Plant’s roadmap in April 2018. Kiira Motors Corporation is a State Enterprise that seeks to improve supply chain localization, contract manufacturing, and knowledge transfer in order to increase value addition in Uganda’s automotive industry. This calculated move would help Uganda become an upper-middle-income country by 2040 and is in line with the industrialization goal.

With the goal of using automotive technology to improve Uganda, KMC is aggressively seeking long-term technological partnerships for the development, production, and sale of automobiles and their components throughout Africa.
