The agreement, which also includes Nigeria Airways, the national airline of the West African nation, operating flights to Uganda, was recently struck, according to Ismail Ayobami Alatise, the Nigerian ambassador to Uganda.

Following an agreement between the governments of Uganda and Nigeria, Uganda Airlines is getting ready to launch flights to Nigeria.

The agreement, which also includes Nigeria Airways, the national airline of the West African nation, operating flights to Uganda, was recently struck, according to Ismail Ayobami Alatise, the Nigerian ambassador to Uganda.

He claimed that expanding commerce and bilateral ties between the two nations is the deal’s main driving force.

Alatise revealed it during a press conference on Tuesday at the Uganda Media Center.

According to the United Nations COMTRADE database, trade between the two nations is presently valued at $24 million (or roughly 88 billion shillings).

The majority of Uganda’s exports to Nigeria are agricultural goods including tobacco, hides and skins, as well as electronics, while the most of its imports are float glass and textiles.

“Expansion is the main concept in business, no matter what you do. If you have $1,000,000 in money, the idea is that you should be able to grow your business by perhaps a factor of three, he said.

Uganda Airlines was reestablished in 2018, and on August 28, 2019, passenger flights resumed. It presently runs 10 or more regional flights, with Dubai serving as the lone international route and Nairobi, Juba, Mogadishu, etc.

However, the airline plans to start flying to Guangzhou, the UK, and Rwanda, among other places.

Therefore, in order to accomplish this, we must bring all relevant factors to the table and ensure that we foster intra-African commerce. Because it doesn’t pay us, we want to end the lack of intra-African trade. It relates to our development, he continued.

On August 28, 2019, Uganda’s airline, which had been shut down since 2018, reopened.

Currently, it runs 10 or more regional flights per week, with Dubai serving as the only international destination.

However, the airline plans to start operating flights to Guangzhou, the United Kingdom, and Rwanda, among other destinations.
