Exporters have praised Uganda Airlines for reopening a direct route to Mumbai, India’s major business hub, after a 40-year hiatus.

On Monday, October 2, Odrek Rwabwogo, the chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee on Exports and Industrial Development (PACIED), expressed his satisfaction that their message about strengthening export infrastructure, routes, and markets was taking hold.

He expressed his gratitude to Jennifer Bamuturaki, the company’s chief executive officer, and her staff for helping Uganda Airlines, the nation’s premier national passenger and cargo carrier, open a service between Entebbe and Mumbai.

Old Bombay is a fantastic choice because it is a tech and financial hub with a rich history and ties to East African culture. For well over 500 years, the Gujaratis have traded with Africa, he stated on X, formerly Twitter.

The recent archaeological excavation sites in both Gorji (north-western India) and Teso District in Kenya, according to Rwabwogo, who is also the senior presidential advisor on special tasks, confirm trade in sorghum, millet, and other ancient grains from Africa.

“The text mills started here in 1854, starting the cotton revolution that put Uganda into production in 1903. What a pleasure it is that we can now link directly and quickly for improved trade, technology transfer, and tourism,” he wrote.

On October 7, 2023, the first aircraft to Mumbai will leave the ground. On October 4, 2021, Uganda Airlines began operating its first international route to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.

This national carrier, which recently expanded to Nigeria, began operating scheduled flights throughout East Africa and other foreign markets in 2019.

It received the Ch-Aviation World’s Youngest Aircraft Fleet Award in 2021 and 2022.

Its mission is to be a world-class airline that exceeds the expectations of its passengers by providing superior customer service, seamless worldwide connections, and a dedication to excellence.
