The transformational partnership between Roke Telkom and GX Group is expected to revolutionize Uganda’s digital environment.

In a historic move, the world’s leading provider of network solutions, GX Group from India, and the telecoms titan Roke Telkom have joined forces.

A period of remarkable improvement in internet affordability and accessibility within Uganda’s boundaries is about to begin thanks to this strategic alliance.

Roke Telkom and GX Group are ready to improve the internet experience for Ugandan customers by launching a cutting-edge assortment of affordable Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) devices, stoking the flames of innovation and advancement in the telecommunications industry.

On August 17, 2023, GX Group and Roke Telkom held a press conference in Kampala to announce their partnership.

Roke Telkom’s CEO, Roger Sekaziga, underlined during the press conference that his firm serves both urban and rural areas as a local organization implementing Fiber to the Home and a combination of Fiber/Fixed Wireless Networks.

In order to deliver connectivity to underserved areas across Uganda, he continued, their objective is to ensure fair access to broadband.

“Our main worry has been the exorbitant expense of implementing fiber technology, which would prevent underprivileged populations from having access to high-speed internet. We hope that working with GX India will make the switch from fixed wireless to fiber more affordable and quick, enabling fiber connections to be extended to houses that presently only have wireless internet access, said Sekaziga.

He added that by partnering with a major player like GX India, they will be able to lower the cost of the equipment required for fiber services, allowing them to extend the reach of their high-speed internet services beyond their existing coverage region.

Innovative products from GX India, such as AI-based optical network terminals and software, ongoing remote technical assistance, and more, are delivered to Uganda. GX India will provide network device security measures, specialized solutions, and customisation options like screen printing and Graphic User Interface (GUI) Page modification as part of the agreement.

Roke Telkom’s ongoing efforts to improve internet access in Uganda were praised by Ashu Gupta, Senior Manager of GX Group-India & Africa, who also emphasized their goal to use GX India’s experience to deliver revolutionary services and solutions.

The CFO of Roke Telkom, Edwin Kyambadde Musoke, expressed confidence in the alliance and emphasized that they hope to bring about positive change and support the expansion of Uganda’s telecommunications industry by combining their local expertise and network infrastructure with that of GX India.

Fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) solutions pioneer GX Group has been involved in FTTH product development on a global scale for more than 20 years.

This partnership between Roke Telkom and GX India is in line with Roke Telkom’s initiatives to provide Ugandans with widespread access to low-cost, high-speed internet via mobile, broadband, fiber, and satellite networks.

This daring move marks a new stage in the technical development of the country, where internet access is set to break down barriers and spur socioeconomic development and digital empowerment.
